However, he requires support from his teammates to survive, because he needs to get dangerously close to enemies and the Gem mine and it leaves your teammates at a 2v3 situation. He's also an excellent assassin in the mode as he can quickly assassinate one target, especially if they have all the Gems, or wipe out the whole team using his Super.

The main challenge we ran into was the integration between the desmos interface and the replit web app. In addition, we utilized Canva to produce sleek and aesthetic UI/UX design. The algorithm for determining the edges and shapes in each drawing is called the Sobel edge detector (implemented in-house) and we utilized the potrace library to convert the bitmapped image into a smooth, scalable graphic image. We also used replit to create and host our web app. Our Desmos Art Generator web app was built on the collaborative IDE and used the web-based frameworks HTML, CSS, React.js, and JavaScript, Node.js, and Express. Recently, after furthering our knowledge with web app languages and the functionalities of desmos and processing.js, we decided to create a desmos art generator for the hackathon. TLDR: You can upload an image and our website turns it into a Desmos graph How we built it Overall, Desmos Art Generator provides a convenient and affordable way for users to express their creativity and artistry. The how to page also covers how our generator works with a diagram and explanation. The about page has information about our mission and future plans for Desmos Art Generator. They can also make minor changes to the image in desmos if necessary. In addition, the output includes the exact equations of the curves and lines so users can replicate the image themselves using and save it. After learning the locations of the edges, the algorithm then finds the curve equations that replicate it, before it outputs to the user a desmos graph version of the image - that is, the image in the form of hundreds of desmos equations put together. The algorithm highlights the edges within the drawing/image, so it could be traced by a tracing library called Potrace. The image is then processed and passed through a computer vision algorithm called sobel edge detection, which used convolutions and a Gaussian filter. When a user opens Desmos Art Generator, they will see its information and how-to-guide of our generator and are prompted to upload a picture of any image or drawing. With the power of computer vision, math, and a pinch of artistic talent, with our generator, anyone can create their own art on a Desmos canvas! What it doesĭesmos Art Generator is a web app that ensures that all users can always have a platform to express their creativity by visualizing their drawings. Since expressing creativity for both students and adults alike is important for bonding together, education, and for expressing experiences, stories, and emotions, we decided to create from scratch a desmos art generator for the hackathon. In our math classes, we have explored using Desmos graphs to create drawings such as snowmen and utilized processing.js to code scenery and houses. Many of us in our hackathon team are both technology, STEM, and art enthusiasts ourselves every time we see novel and astounding interdisciplinary tech/stem+art creations, such as Google’s Quick Draw, it always blows us away to see how creative and mesmerizing they are. I stood in front of Catherine Donohue's house. It's telling the story from their perspective. Moore: What I really wanted to do was bring them to life. Zhang: You also made a point to literally walk in their footsteps. “They did think the girls were expendable and disposable.” You don't know that Edna had a little terrier dog. You don't know that Albina grieved because she lost all of her children and wasn't able to have the family she wanted. The other books describe the story and what happened to them, but you don't know that Grace worked in a bank and was very intelligent. What is like when a husband knows his wife is going to die and he has to look after the children? Moore: I read other books about the girls, and I thought: “Why is there no book that tells the women’s story, that focuses on their journey?” What were they were like? A play, of course, intimately delves into their lives, like the dynamic between Catherine-one of the dial painters who sued-and Tom Donohue, between husband and wife. Why did you then decide to write a nonfiction book? Zhang: You’ve said you first came across this story through These Shining Lives, a play about the dial painters, of which you ended up directing a production. The thing that got me was when Arthur Roeder, the president of the United States Radium Corporation, was on the stand, he was asked, “What was the first case that you knew of?” He says, “I don't remember the name.” Essentially, you've killed these people and you can't remember their name. I think they did think the girls were expendable and disposable. Was there a gender or class division at play? Zhang: But not everyone thought that radium was harmless, right? The dial painters were taught to lick their brushes, but the male lab technicians working for the very same company took precautions around radium. He writes about seeing her smock from work hanging up in the bedroom and and it gives him the feeling of “a ghost bouncing around on the wall.” It's haunting that they were later nicknamed the “ghost girls” because of what happened.Ĭharlotte Purcell, one of the painters, demonstrates the lip-pointing technique that they used to get the brushes to a fine point. In the book, I quote the husband of one of the girls who was a dial painter. Kate Moore: They were just entranced by it! It was luminous. You write about these women coming home from the factory, covered in radium and glowing in the dark. Sarah Zhang: Even a century later, reading about how radium glows in the dark sounds kind of magical. Our conversation, condensed and edited for clarity, is below. I spoke to Moore about her book and the legacy of the dial painters. A free ebook excerpt is available now from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Google Play, and the book comes out in the U.S. With their cautionary tales in mind, scientists on the Manhattan Project learned to protect themselves from radiation. Their lawsuits were key to reinforcing the U.S.’s nascent workplace safety standards. In the a new book titled The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women, Kate Moore tells the story of how these dial painters took on the radium companies that made them sick-as they were dying of radium poisoning. Their radium-filled bones were being bombarded with radiation from the inside. So all that radium the women licked off of their paintbrushes actually ended up in their bones, like calcium would have. The human body, it turns out, easily mistakes radium for calcium. Their jaw bones-brittle and degraded-broke at a light touch. Then years later, after they stopped working the factories, the women started getting mysteriously ill. These products didn’t actually all contain the expensive and precious element, but the evocation of radium gave them a healthful glow. You could buy radium water, radium face cream, radium toothpaste, and even Radium Brand Creamery Butter. Plus, radium was supposed to be good for you. They were even taught to paint tiny numbers on the dials by licking their paintbrushes to a fine point. The young women had no reason to worry about radium then. The paint got onto their hands, into their hair, and settled on their clothes. During World War I and the years thereafter, dozens of teenage girls and young women worked in radium-dial factories, painting glow-in-the-dark numbers onto watches and airplane instruments. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your unique location. Labor costs are estimated between 68 and 85 while parts are typically priced around 1,079. I would be interested in what a more experienced forum member has to say about this. The average cost for a Honda Pilot Powertrain Control Module Replacement is between 1,147 and 1,164. Are they also replacing the torque converter? Has your transmission set a torque converter trouble code (P0741)? Honda corporate has to sign off on warranty work like this. Is this warranty work? If so, then I would guess that the Honda Tech Line has told the dealership that this repair will fix your problems. This is why so many people preach about clean ATF. There is an internal filter that is not accessible, as well as an internal hydraulic valve body that cannot be cleaned short of a full rebuild. If you have this work done, insist that they also replace the external filter. If the dealer is saying that this needs to be replaced, then in my opinion, your transmission has an issue with dirty/degraded ATF that has gummed up the solenoids. It is possible to remove and replace this with the transmission still in the vehicle. The solenoid assembly on the 6 speed transmission is one piece with all the solenoids and their little feed tubes with screens ganged together. I'm curious if anyone else has had issues after the software update? I'll be reaching out to Honda USA but I'm not very optimistic about it. This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned and will never by another Honda product. Looks like I'll have to pay around 7k out of pocket. My Honda is out of warranty and they are saying it's not related to the software update. Had to get it towed to the Honda Service center that was about 1hr away. Well on my way back from a road trip it decided to go completely out. Put off taking it in do to distance to service center and needing the vehicle to get back and forth to work. It would do this every once in awhile but not consistent. Few months after the transmission would act like it couldn't find the gear and would go into neutral tell the rpms came down. They replaced the bad injectors and reprogram (software update) the PGM-FI and TCM. Finally a recall came out in 2021.Took it in had it repaired at 69k miles on it. For reference, the 2004 Honda Pilot originally had a starting sticker price of 27,590, with the range-topping Pilot EX-L Sport Utility 4D starting at 31,360. Do to the repair cost I couldn't afford to get it fixed. With in a few months of owning it I started getting engine light on saying the 02 sensor was bad and occasionally make it where my Pilot wouldn't move. Bought it used with around 9k miles back in 2018. I think the really important thing here is that anyone that is adversely affected by the 'Mic in use indicator' on displays with no menu bars should write to Apple feedback and explain why. anyways, not something done with HDMI in most contexts without converters, and at that point using SDI makes a lot of sense. Many more entertainment based shows that come in are all SDI based solutions due to needing to run hundreds of feet to the projectors, or video wall processors, etc. quite often so that market likely not bothered, which lets face it, is a large portion of the live event market. There is one production company we use often that utilizes Playback Pro with direct output from the mac hdmi, but again, software that does strictly playback, likely isn't affected by this as it isn't using the microphone, thus no orange dot, and they do large corporate events for companies like Phillip Morris/Altria, Captial One, etc. And for production companies we bring in for shows, this is fairly standard. The one production Mac we use is minor, and while I am building a new playback rig currently there, it will be using SDI outputs from a decklink duo, which I believe should work around this issue anyways. However the marketing department all uses macs, and none use it for this purpose. Yes this is a rarity (Supposedly, another anecdote here) but the point stands. In the road house, I am the only one in production that owns a mac actually. The manager determines that addressing high-impact bugs would increase customer satisfaction. Imagine this: A project manager in a tech company has to choose between finalizing a software release and addressing customer requests. On the flip side, prioritization can be vital in professional settings when faced with multiple competing tasks. The frequent experience of decision paralysis can lead to stress, wasted time, and even missed opportunities. Prioritization streamlines decision-making by clearly identifying which tasks or choices are most important and urgent.ĥ9% of employees and business leaders in a study by Oracle and Seth Stephens-Davidowitz admitted they face a decision dilemma-not knowing what decision to make-more than once every day. Prioritize well and you’ll see benefits in multiple areas, including: Decision-making What are the benefits of using a priority matrix? They're simple tasks and don't have a big impact, but they maintain order in your communication channels.īy understanding where each task falls on this matrix, you can develop a clearer action plan, prioritizing the tasks that offer the most benefit for the least amount of effort and time. Tasks in this quadrant might be things like cleaning up old email distribution lists. For example, manually updating old code comments might take a long time but doesn't dramatically improve the system's functionality. These tasks take a lot of work but don't offer much in return. For example, implementing a password manager across your company might take only a short time to set up, but it significantly improves cybersecurity. These tasks provide a big payoff for less work. It requires extensive planning and resources but can improve your IT infrastructure's efficiency and scalability. For example, migrating your entire data center to the cloud falls into this quadrant. In time-sensitive or high-stakes environments, these matrices often focus on variables like “impact” and “urgency” to facilitate decision-making.Ī basic priority matrix has these quadrants: High Impact and High Effort Why does this work? Details allow for a more nuanced assessment. For example, priority matrices in ITIL (the Information Technology Infrastructure Library) often have more than four quadrants. Complex priority matrices can offer more precision by adding rows and columns to identify which tasks should be given priority. The Eisenhower matrix is a simple, widely utilized method with just four sections. It can be as simple or as complex as needed and incorporates multiple dimensions like impact, effort, urgency, and financial implications. The priority matrix is a broader concept that offers various methods and variables for prioritizing tasks. Priority matrices help individuals or teams develop clear action plans by categorizing and prioritizing tasks. A priority matrix is a tool used to sort tasks or projects based on a defined set of variables like impact, urgency, effort, and importance.
